Spanish wines, the true taste of Spain

Wine is that ideal drink to accompany any occasion: a celebration, a moment of relaxation or a special dinner. Would you like to know more about wine and Spanish grapes?

Spanish wines are one of the most traditional products in the country. Wine is part of the history, culture and tradition of Spain. This country is one of the most important wine producers and exporters in the world. The province of La Rioja has made wine for almost 1,000 years, although there are investigations that have found traces of production of more than 3,000 years ago.

The more than 400 varieties of grapes in Spain make it possible to elaborate a vast catalogue of different wines with special flavours and categories, especially red, rosé and white – and even blue wines! We also find table wines, from the region or certificate of origin (DO), among others.

An exciting journey of flavours

In 2000 the Norwegian Age Folkestad decided to pursue his dreams and left his country and his job as a teacher. He found his new home in the town of Altea, on the Costa Blanca, a place that has always attracted writers, painters and other artists. There Age opened one of the most popular restaurants in the area, Casa Vital restaurant, where he offers an exquisite menu that masterfully combines Norwegian and Spanish specialties, as well as wine tastings, art exhibitions and guided historical tours in Altea.

In one of his first wine tasting the manager of the bodega that hosted it were really impressed with Age’s passion, personality and knowledge. So they asked him if he wanted to create his own wines. This was the beginning of the successful Casa Vital wines. Age launched his first wines in 2011. Today he works with two bodegas that produce wines for him. One is based in Caudete (Castilla-La Mancha), the other in the famous wine district of La Rioja. Soon after, in 2015, their first Rioja wine won a gold medal by the International Wine Guide.

Exquisite Spanish wines for all tastes

Currently, Age produces eight different varieties of Spanish wines, with Azul Mediterráneo blue wine (and its variations) being one of its most popular creations, in addition to Thea, one of his most special products, since it is dedicated to his beloved daughter Thea. Thea is a red wine created with vineyard grapes over 80 years old of the Bodegas Antonio Alcaraz in La Rioja and comes from three different French oak barrels. In addition, you can also taste these Casa Vital wines:

  • Millennium Casa Vital, their award-winning Rioja red wine.

  • Barrica Casa Vital, made with the best Castilla grapes.
