Movida Denia was founded 5 years ago with the goal of providing a unique and complete dining experience in a relaxed yet sophisticated setting.
One of the hottest new things in Costa Blanca’s food scene right now is Movida Denia and not surprising given the past of those at the helm.
Karlo Mehanna, of Lebanese descent but born and raised in Sydney, Australia, and Javier Sevilla Verdejo, originally from Alicante, are the businessmen behind this successful project. Karlo spent the majority of his time rescuing restaurants, cafes, and bars, and when he comes into an existing business, he assesses it, creates, executes, and revives it.
From his side, Javier Sevilla has managed restaurants in Washington, DC, San Francisco, and Sydney, Australia. Javier has created some incredible dishes as well as put his own spin on some classics, thanks to an original cooking education from his Spanish mother.
They met in Sydney 10 years ago and the creative side of them both was on overdrive. They created Alegrias Spanish Tapas in Balmain, Sydney Australia and within 1 year they were in the top 20 out of over 4000 restaurants. Alegrías was a hit with locals and tourists alike.
However, At the peak of it, they decided to sell and relocate to Spain for a change of scenery so they started itching again after a very enjoyable 24 months off. After visiting many places they kept returning to Denia, so when Calle Del Pont 29 became available they jumped at the chance to launch Movida Denia five years ago.
Movida’s goal is to provide a high-quality, fresh product that is simply and honestly prepared. Karlo’s Lebanese heritage shines through some of the dishes, such as their “Pulpo al llama sobre baba ghanouj.” It’s a real treat, the combination of the roasted eggplant and grilled octopus works very well together, as does Javier’s love for Asian food, which is demonstrated in their ensaladilla no tan rusa with wasabi Mayo and soy/sesame All are served in a relaxed casual dining atmosphere, nice lighting, background music, and big smiles characterize their dining rooms, which have some open spaces and some more intimate spaces.
Their fantastic selection of fine Spanish wines will satisfy all palates. They have a cocktail lounge that provides a more comfortable social experience for pre or post-dinner cocktails/drinks, as well as a partially separated dining room that can accommodate up to 40 guests, making it ideal for any private events/dinners you or your business may have.
If you want to see live belly dancing shows while eating the most authentic Lebanese cuisine, don’t miss their “Arabian Nights,” which takes place once a month as well as this is a truly unique experience and they are always putting on specialist themes so keep in touch with their website for more information.
So if you like to dine in Denia, make sure you do not miss Movida as they promise you a memorable dining experience.
