With three Michelin stars awarded from the illustrious guide, this restaurant is a must-stop when travelling to Cantabria.
For more than 20 years, the Cenador de Amós restaurant in Villaverde de Pontones, Cantabria, has had its Michelin star thanks to the cuisine of Jesús Sánchez. The chef has been able to reign freely over the oven tops, expressing himself by doing what comes naturally to him.
More than a restaurant, Cenador de Amós is an experience on a heavenly level. The waiters will seem like angels and the food will seem stratospheric. Although not everyone is willing to spend that kind of money on a few hours of fine dining. But if you like to eat well, you have to see it for what it is, a high-end gastronomic experience.
The restaurant is located in an 18th-century palace. The façade of the building is baroque and the interior, although renovated, retains the original floor, doors and mosaics on the walls. In this way, it offers a minimalist and avant-garde refurbished space, while always maintaining its original charm.
As soon as you enter, while they give you an aperitif on the house, some delicious anchovies, they offer you a visit to their wine cellar. There you will find more than 2,500 bottles corked with 200 years of history: craft beers, sweet wines, whites, reds, cavas and champagnes from all over the world.
You can choose between three different types of menus: essence, experience or memory. Let’s look at each of them in detail:
The essence menu is the one we chose. It costs 137 euros per person including VAT, without wine pairing. The menu consists of 4 snacks, 5 appetizers, 3 starters, fish, meat, dessert and a tray of petit fours. This is a closed menu and it is not possible to choose the dishes.
The à la carte menu is the reduced version of the core menu, but you can choose the starter, the main course and the dessert. The à la carte menu consists of 4 snacks, 5 appetizers, a starter, a main course, dessert and petit fours. This menu is only served for lunch, it is not available for dinner. The price is 114 euros, wine cellar not included.
And finally, the Experience menu is the longest of all. You will eat 5 snacks, 5 appetizers, 5 starters, fish, meat, pre-dessert, dessert and petit fours. It costs 167 euros and the wine cellar is also included.
As you can imagine, the service in this type of restaurant is exquisite. As a curiosity, each dish was brought to the table by two different waiters to be served at the same time to each of the diners. The sommelier also advises you on which drink to order, etc.
