The Olive Tree in Moraira is a staple of fine dining, offering its customers the perfect balance of modern and traditional cuisine in a cosy setting.
Despite its spectacular growth in recent years, Moraira has managed to preserve its privileged environment, which gives this small and charming Mediterranean town a special attraction.
Moraira, located in the province of Alicante, is one of the smallest but most charming towns on Costa Blanca. It is a small coastal town belonging to the municipality of Teulada between the towns of Calpe and Javea.
Upon your trip to Moraira, there’s one restaurant in particular that we highly recommend you pay a visit to – The Olive Tree, on Camino El Paellero, 4.
Highly popular among the locals, The Olive Tree is renowned in the town for its modern meets traditional cuisine, offering a top-notch dining experience at very reasonable prices.
Having opened in 1998, The Olive Tree is one of the most prominent and longest-running British owned restaurants in Moraira, offering the Spanish public dishes that are typical of a traditional British roast, by giving it a modern tweak.
When we stepped into The Olive Tree for the first time, we were immediately greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The owners and staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome as soon as you enter.
The Menu
The restaurant offers menus that are dynamic, giving a wide selection of several delectable dishes to delight your palette. We opted for the evening menu, as it is very well priced, at €27.99 per person for three courses including drinks.
To accompany our meal we went with a Castezo Rioja, known for its structure and tannins, similar to a Cabernet Sauvignon but also has fruity tones.
On this particular menu, there are eight different starters to choose from as well as eleven main courses that provide varied and exciting options.
Starters
We chose: the goats cheese salad, prawn cocktail, fishcake with Indian sauces, and the black pudding with herbs and spices.
As far as taste and texture go, these dishes were absolutely superb and we highly recommend any of these to our readers.
Let’s move on to the main courses!
Main Courses
We chose: the sea bass, liver bacon with additions, leg of lamb, and pork belly. The cuts of meat served were absolutely delicious and very tender. The fun thing about going out to eat as a group is getting to try each other’s dishes, seeing that the quality is second to none across all the dishes served.
The sea bass gets an honourable mention, as it was cooked to perfection with a crispy layer on the outside and as you bit into it, it just crumbled in your mouth. It might even be one of the best sea bass dishes available on the Costa Blanca.
Another special shoutout goes to the liver and bacon speciality dish, which is beautifully prepared and delicately arranged. The mashed potato is set under the liver and bacon and complimented by onion rings, showing time, care and dedication to the presentation.
The pork belly dish was extremely succulent, and the lamb’s leg was very generous in terms of portion size. The meat dishes are accompanied by crunchy, and well-cooked vegetables to set them off perfectly.
Desserts
We chose: the white chocolate cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and the special Irish coffee made with cream.
A dessert such as sticky toffee pudding is such a treat for the Brits to find abroad, and the one prepared by The Olive Tree did not disappoint, it was to die for. The desserts were also presented as equally as beautiful as our other courses, and it was the perfect way to finish off a meal.
They also serve a mean chocolate brownie with ice cream and cream.
The Olive Tree is conveniently located in Camino del Paellero, just off the Moraira-Calpe Coast Road, a short drive from the centre of Moraira.
