Have you ever thought about what your life would be like in retirement? The Costa del Sol, and Marbella in particular, is considered one of the best places to retire, both for Spaniards and for the rest of Europe.
If you have not yet made a move, the dream of living in Marbella can become a reality. This place is one of the best retirement spots on Spain’s Costa del Sol. A Mediterranean paradise, Marbella offers everything a Spanish destination should, including a coastline of beautiful beaches, Andalusian vibes, the seaside lifestyle, golf courses, a fantastic dining scene, numerous bars and restaurants and plenty of sunshine.
However, don’t take our word for it that Marbella is a great ex-pat destination. Look at the rich and the celebrities who live here to see their worth, or look at the hundreds of thousands of ex-pats of different nationalities who live here all year round. If you’re still not convinced, read on to find out why Marbella should be your place to live.
Idyllic Weather and Climate
During the summer months, picturesque Marbella is renowned as one of Spain’s best resorts for a holiday. Its location in the cosmopolitan south of Spain means warm summers, which wholeheartedly invite sunbathing by the pool. However, all ex-pats living in the area also expect calm and mild winters. Expect 320 days of sunshine a year, which all the experts say is good for your health.
Accommodation
Property in Marbella varies from large luxury mansions to small unique flats, allowing for something to suit all tastes and specific requirements. Many of the more mature clients that Marbella Unique Properties deals with tend to rent properties during the winter months for medium-term rentals. Allowing them a break from their colder countries of residence and experience Marbella in the cooler seasons. This year we are seeing more and more demand for this type of rental.
Short-term rentals are always popular with clients booking their summer holidays well in advance from just after Christmas or even from the summer before. This allows clients to have the best selection of properties available and many mature clients choose to repeat and stay in the same property year after year.
There are private residences that are adapted for older clients, clients with disabilities or for people looking to live alone within a community, which has services such as doctors, restaurants, hairdressers, among others, and a reception that is open all year round and that they can use in their free time.
There are two types of options for this type of residence: assisted living or independent living within the same community in different blocks. Marbella Unique Properties works with one particular excellent residence located in Puerto Banús, within walking distance of all amenities and facilities, as well as offering these two types of homes to choose from. Pets are also allowed in some of these properties.
This is also a great option for clients looking to be independent in Spain but without having to worry about having to sort out bills, living expenses, etc. This also allows clients’ families peace of mind and reduces stress for everyone.
Puerto Banús
English Speaking Community
Because Marbella is such an international city, we are fortunate to have a wide variety of languages spoken on a regular basis. When walking through the streets, you can usually hear 2 or 3 or more languages being spoken at the same time.
Most people who live or work in the area speak at least 2 languages fluently, Spanish and English, on a daily basis. This means that shops, restaurants and staff can speak to customers in their native language, which makes the idea of “living abroad” easier.
Social Events
Marbella offers wonderful social events throughout the year, from summer Galas in high season to music festivals, charity fundraisers and events organised by expatriate groups or well-known organisations.
There is a growing variety of outdoor activities to choose from. Marbella is known as the “Golf Coast” with over 40 golf courses along the coast. Two of the most famous tennis and paddle tennis clubs are the Puente Romano (located next to the hotel) and the Manolo Santana (located just at the beginning of the Road to Istan).
You can take a stroll along the beautiful promenade that stretches from Marbella town to San Pedro and beyond enjoying a spectacular beachfront, which offers outdoor gym equipment for all to use, and many private or group classes take place in the green areas next to the promenade.
Most communities and homes in Marbella have a swimming pool, which says there are a variety of gyms and social clubs with outdoor and indoor facilities offering spas, indoor and outdoor pools and classes on a daily basis.
