Restaurante Soqueta: Oliva’s best restaurant, where tradition matters more than anything

In 1984, Restaurante Soqueta opened with beachside on one of the longest, most beautiful beaches in the Valencian Community. Back then, it was just a small place, with a limited number of covers. Almost 40 years on, the restaurant has two beautiful dining rooms – an outdoor salon and a smaller, more intimate comedor for business lunches, family gatherings and private celebrations.

Nothing much has changed though. The same family prepares fabulous traditional Mediterranean food, with a clever modern touch. And the beautiful vista over the Mediterranean Sea, which yields the seafood specialities, certainly hasn’t changed. At Soqueta, the emphasis is on giving their clients what they want, and what they want is fresh seafood, cooked with local ingredients, prepared with passion, and traditional Valencian rice dishes. This, and their fabulous home-made desserts, is what brings people back time and time again, and it’s not going to change any time soon.

The impact of Covid-19 restrictions:

Like all other businesses, Soqueta is complying with government rulings on hygiene and cleaning protocols, and social distancing measures. This means that the indoor dining salon can only accommodate 18 people at a time, but other than this, it’s business as usual at Soqueta.

Chefs Isabel and Juan Fuster do recommend that you book your table in advance to avoid disappointment, though. Eating at Soqueta is a fantastic experience for all the senses, as you savour the fruits of the local land and sea while gazing out over the beautiful sands of Playa de Oliva. There’s a booking page on their website, where you can book in tranches of two weeks, or you can call or email.

Menu del dia:

One of the best ways to experience the unique Soqueta Experience is to enjoy the Menu del Dia, which is served between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm Tuesday to Friday. The menu changes each week, and is just €25 for four courses, excluding drinks. It’s a very small price to pay for spending a few hours in Paradise, isn’t it?

Soqueta is also well known for its amazing desserts. Many of them are just produced for a limited time, then reintroduced later, so there’s always something new to look forward to. Thankfully for those of us with a sweet tooth, they advertise their latest desserts on their Facebook Page. We love the look of the Pear Tatin. Looks like the diet is on hold – again! But who can resist such beautiful desserts, crafted from fresh local ingredients? We certainly can’t, and nor should anyone who loves good food. You have our permission to feast on fabulous desserts!

It’s impossible to put a value on the relaxation and euphoria that comes from enjoying the sensory pleasures of enjoying good food in beautiful surroundings in an atmosphere of tranquility, mixed with a passion for living the good life. That’s all part of the package at Soqueta.
