Pic D’or is not only the best restaurant to go to for haute cuisine in Benissa, it has commanding views over the Mediterranean Sea, so as you savour your food, you can drink in the beauty of Nature all around you. It’s a great place for walks too, being close to the Paseo Ecologica, a stunning coastal walk taking in some dramatic scenery, unusual plants and beautiful coves.
Such a wonderful setting is appropriate for Pic D’Or, as they specialise in Mediterranean food such as seafood, rice and grilled meats, imaginatively presented to showcase the distinct flavours of the region.
The restaurant recently re-opened after the Covid-19 outbreak with reduced hours and capacity, maintaining stringent standards of hygiene and cleanliness and observing social distancing requirements to keep staff and diners safe and comfortable. Now Pic D’Or is able to operate at normal capacity and is open in the evenings from 7.30 pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Booking is advised, as the restaurant is very popular, due to its spectacular setting and innovative cuisine.
A meal enjoyed at Pic D’Or is local gastronomy at its best, cooked to perfection. Their fish is sourced from locally landed catches in Moraira and Calpe, while many of their home made desserts are made extra special for being marinated in exquisite Muscatel wine, produced in the Marina Alta region around Benissa. You will not experience food like this anywhere else on the Costa Blanca, nor will you enjoy such exquisite flavours in such a beautiful setting. Pic D’Or sets food trends – it doesn’t follow them.
Benissa is a beautiful place to visit in its own right. It’s a mediaeval town with stunning architecture, including the magnificent Neo Gothic style Marina Cathedral, which was only recently fully completed. The Paseo Ecologica has a promenade in both directions for safe walking and photo opportunities, so why not build up an appetite by stimulating your senses and filling your lungs with fresh sea air before enjoying dinner at Pic D’Or?
Cold dishes include gazpacho made with local vegetables, and tuna or salmon tartare – a tasty combination of raw fish with avocado and wasabi or mango and vanilla. Just imagine sitting overlooking the very sea where the fish you are sampling was caught landed. It just doesn’t get better than that.
Hot courses are equally imaginative. Try grilled octopus with a quenelle of potatoes and caremelised onions, or fresh Calpe prawns in garlic. If it has to be meat, think about Iberian pork ribs with peppers and sherry, or a steak, cooked exactly to your liking. Pic D’Or even have a stylish children’s menu, with chicken escalope, hamburger, or spaghetti Bolognese, cooked with the same care that goes into everything that comes from their kitchen.
Pic D’Or is the place for discerning diners, who want more than just a meal when they visit a restaurant. With its spectacular setting, excellent food and high standards of service, it’s an experience to savour in more ways than one.
