Lady Elizabeth School, Benitachell: Top grade A Level passes surpass UK average by 13%
Thanks to the support from their teaching staff and parents, the A Level students of Lady Elizabeth School in Cumbre de Sol, Benitachell, have achieved outstanding results.
2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, but especially for those students taking A Level and GCSE exams. It’s been one more element of stress to cope with, but thanks to the support from their teaching staff and parents, the A Level students of Lady Elizabeth School in Cumbre de Sol, Benitachell, have achieved outstanding results.
40 per cent of the pupils have received A or A* Grades, compared to an average of 27 per cent of UK candidates. The sixth form students achieved a 96 per cent overall pass rate, and 9 out of every 10 school leavers applying have been accepted at their first choice further education establishment.
In any academic year, these are spectacular achievements, but set against a backdrop of the Covid-19 outbreak, school closure and distance learning, the results are truly remarkable. So, what’s the secret, and why is Lady Elizabeth School consistently surpassing its own high standards for pupil accomplishment?
The main advantage children at LES, as it’s informally called, enjoy is that the staff see education as the responsibility of the whole school community – students, teachers, parents, friends and family members. While each pupil is encouraged to learn and grow as individuals, they are also expected to take responsibility for their own conduct, in class and outside, so that they advance their own learning experience, as well as making valuable contributions to the whole school community.
The school’s Mission Statement is very much focused on this:
To provide an enriching, learning focused education of the highest standard which allows our students to both achieve success and experience failure in a safe, supportive environment.
LES encourages accountability at every step, while fostering an atmosphere of positivity and respect which allows pupils of all ages to blossom into their full potential, without feeling pressurised to achieve results at any cost. It’s a holistic approach to education, and pupils learn to become valuable and valued community members, whatever they are doing, whatever their age.
The school accepts children from just a year old to 18, and parents are encouraged to be part of their children’s education right from their first day at school to their last. The teaching staff speak of ‘The LES Family,’ and there are various extracurricular activities for pupils and parents. There’s even a social group for parents, called ‘LES Amigos.’ All this contributes to realising the school’s vision:
To develop internationally minded, life long learners who are able to thrive in a world of change and opportunity.
LES was founded back in 1987, with just 14 pupils being taught in two adjacent villas in Javea. Today, the school occupies a large, purpose-built campus on the dramatic Northern Costa Blanca coast. There are almost 1100 pupils on the register for 2020/2021, with more than 150 teaching staff to help them progress through this vital stage in their lives.
