The Lady Elizabeth School´s ¨Plus Clubs¨ is an extra-curricular programme with a difference. Currently the school offers 50 different types of activity for the pupils at Lady Elizabeth, and 41 of these are free! The classes are held every weekday, after the school day has finished. The school uses their own facilities and teachers plus they have partners from outside the school to provide even more choice of games, sports, crafts and other activities.
Head Teacher of Lady Elizabeth, Chris Akin, tells us about Plus Club in his own words…
“At Lady Elizabeth School we aspire to inspire all of our pupils, even beyond the classroom. Our after school Plus Club programme has been devised to offer pupils opportunities beyond the normal school timetable and enhance their amazing learning. Currently we offer 50 Plus clubs and have over 780 children enrolled in the programme. These numbers are growing on a daily basis as we continue to provide even more clubs and more opportunities.
In a new initiative started in September 2019, we have been able to provide many of these Plus clubs free of charge for our LES pupils. We currently have 41 free clubs for all our children aged from our Early Years Foundation stage to our Sixth formers. These range from Robotics, Harry Potter crafts, Movie Makers, Aquaponics, Cooking, Touch typing, Chess, Coding, Duke of Edinburgh, Performing Arts, Spanish games, Freaky science, Eco warriors to Football, Rugby, Swimming, Water polo, Yoga and Volleyball. There really is something for everyone.
We also work closely with local businesses and aim to build strong community connections in our Plus Club arena. Some of our valued partners provide Plus Clubs at LES such as Karate, Ballet, Cheerleading, Voice and Performance coaching, and Gymnastics. This list is continuing to grow as more businesses are approaching and working with us, utilising our amazing facilities and providing even more opportunities for our pupils.
If you would like any information or would like to provide a Plus Club at Lady Elizabeth school please contact Jayne Henaghan at firstname.lastname@example.org.”
The wonderful facilities at Lady Elizabeth mean that they can offer a huge range of after school activities to suit each age range at the school. From foundation years to A-level, the students can participate in classes including the following:
And many more.
Some of the more unusual choices include a Harry Potter crafts class, a Free Play class, where the little ones can play games or paint, whatever they like on the day, and a Little Games club where the children can play board games in either English or Spanish to encourage fun learning. For the older children there are cooking, arts and science clubs too, all helping the students to learn whilst they are enjoying their activities. Some of the more unusual classes include Speakers Corner, to encourage students to become more confident in public speaking, gender studies, to explore issues around gender roles and identity, and Movie Makers, to collaborate in making short films of all genres. Plus Clubs is a well-rounded activity programme with something for every child at the school.
