Hotel Abaco, Altea is open again, and waiting to welcome guests

Today, we can bring you the exciting news that Abaco is now open for business, and waiting to welcome returning guests and new friends to enjoy the fabulous experience that is a stay at Abaco.

Last time Spain Life Exclusive spoke to Adelina from this beautiful boutique hotel in Altea’s iconic Old Town, she had no idea when she would be able to re-open the hotel after its enforced closure due to restrictions aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19. Today, we can bring you the exciting news that Abaco is now open for business, and waiting to welcome returning guests and new friends to enjoy the fabulous experience that is a stay at Abaco.

I asked Adelina why things had changed so quickly, and she told me:

We were hoping to be open again by the end of June, but last week, a business group asked if we could accommodate them for a long stay. As we moved into Phase 2 on Monday, we decided to stay open, as we know people will be asking to visit, now they have more freedom of movement.

Abaco has a well-deserved reputation for attention to detail, and it will come as no surprise to learn that the safety of guests and staff is paramount.  Owners Thomas and Adelina have established stringent cleaning and safety protocols for everyone’s benefit. Face masks are mandatory in all public areas of Abaco, and there are sanitising stations, where antibacterial gel is readily available. The hotel’s usually efficient cleaning routines have also been upgraded to an even higher level to ensure that all surfaces which can potentially transmit the virus are cleaned regularly.

Adelina is keen to ensure that these measures don’t impact on the tranquil, relaxing experience that the Abaco is so well known for, so she asks that guests decide on what they would like their personalised breakfasts to consist of before arrival. This will then be served in their rooms, or they can enjoy it in the lobby, the breakfast area, or on the terrace. If you really can’t wait to explore Altea, you can take your breakfast away with you.

At the end of summer 2019, Thomas and Adelina embarked on an ambitious extension programme. There is a building very close to the Abaco, which is a converted 18th century bakery, and they planned to create 8 more themed bedrooms, a new breakfast area and a wellness centre, as well as providing more outdoor space for their guests to enjoy. However, the lock-down delayed the work, so the wellness area will be their next challenge.

If you were looking forward to making use of the wellness centre, Adelina can arrange for you to have a massage in your room. This is what Hotel Abaco does best – providing a unique, relaxed experience for each guest, so that you leave Altea feeling refreshed, recharged and ready to take on the world again.
