Well, we felt we just had to let you know again about our special restaurant in Calpe as we wish to update you on Essenza Restaurant which is set on the beach itself as recently the Spain Life team had the pleasure to dine there and taste their excellent menu and we had it on good authority that Essenza’s cuisine means you have an outstanding dining experience… however, we did not expect it to be as wonderful as it was and this was due to the local and fresh ingredients they use that are combined to perfection, now we can say that dining at Essenza is a fantastic culinary journey full of flavor and within everyone’s reach.
Essenza is one of those restaurants that are easy to find as it is right on the seafront but stands out from the rest for a good number of reasons. The first thing that impresses you as soon as you set foot in Essenza is the stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea with the Peñon de Ifach to the left that allows you to enjoy the best sunsets in Calpe.
Its large terrace gives you the option to choose a more intimate corner if you are going to enjoy a romantic evening or other larger areas for groups of friends and family.
Their terrace oozes calm and elegance and its versatile and signature Italian-fusion cuisine allow you to enjoy authentic delicacies as well as tasty pizzas for more informal meals. As we already knew that the pizzas at Essenza are delightful, we opted to try the new menu and in this article, we are going to show you the delicious dishes we tried.
As we have already mentioned in previous articles Essenza’s menu is extensive and has a lot of variety to choose from, but in this case, we decided to try their famous menu consisting of four starters, a main to choose from next, and then a dessert.
We will start by saying that we were delighted with the presentation of the dishes by their charming staff who explained the ingredients and told us in a very entertaining way what we were about to taste.
First of all, they brought us some tasty and fresh Cantabrian anchovies on their famous glass bread and tomato textures. We found it an exquisite starter, quite right to whet our appetite, and a very neat presentation, with many notes of color. It should be noted that everything in Essenza is always eaten and completed as everything you can see on their plates is excellent and so very tasty as you often find fun and colorful little flowers that decorate their plates and we have to emphasize that they can be also eaten.
Secondly, we tasted a dish that is a must for cheese lovers, and a signature dish is a Truffle parmesan bonbon. A crunchy texture with a fresh parmesan cheese flavour, delicious, and with a touch of truffle that made a perfect match in this combination of ingredients between creamy, crunchy, and fresh. We were very pleasantly surprised.
Next up is a Foie Gras terrine with mango chutney and passion fruit sauce. The creamy and succulent foie gras matches to perfection with the fresh textures of the mango and passion fruit sauce. We give this dish a ten for the juicy mix of ingredients.
And last but not least they brought us this juicy dish of Parmesan poached eggs with black truffle pearls. Very creamy, tasty, and perfect to accompany with some bread to enjoy the delicious parmesan cheese.
Although there are four starters, the portions are of the ideal size so that you still want to enjoy the main course. Among the main courses to choose from you can find salmon, sirloin steak, and pasta. We opted for the Sirloin Steak with mushrooms and foie gras and the popular Parpadelle alla Horma.
As for the Sirloin Steak, we can only say that it was very tender until it melted in your mouth. A succulent piece of delicious meat with rich mushrooms and creamy foie gras. It is simply an exquisitely cooked dish.
Among their latest pasta dishes, you can find this Parpadelle alla horma. It is called ‘Pasta alla horma’, because once cooked, it is finished in a cheese mold. The first thing to do is to make a hole in the centre of the cheese mold where the pasta will be added, which must be previously cooked and hot, and then mix it with two spoons by adding the cheese that melts due to the heat.
This procedure is done by the waiters in the lounge as you can see in the video below and it is quite colourful and fun. The idea came up not only for the intense flavour it gives to the dish but also to offer an entertaining show.
Of course, after all these culinary specialties you also have to leave some room for dessert so when you read that the dessert is “Bailey’s Café white chocolate Pannacotte, Oreo and aerated caramel” you can do nothing but taste it.
This dessert is a real sweet treat and a wonderful end to an amazing dinner.
So for those of you who don’t know Essenza or if you know it but haven’t tried this exquisite menu then do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Calpe. This place is absolutely lovely and the service unmatched! The atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff are also very friendly and care about your experience.
