Bello Horizonte Decoration is one of the most stunning furniture and interior design studios on the Costa Blanca. Recently, Spain Life Exclusive headed along to Javea to take a look at their new autumn and winter collection and talk to owner Ines De Roij about how Bello came into being, and why it’s so popular with both residents and visitors, all year round. Even if you don’t need anything new for your home, we’d recommend a visit, just to drink in the atmosphere of this beautiful place, and lift your spirits by chatting to Ines, her daughter Evelien, and the enthusiastic and knowledgeable Bello Horizonte team.
The first thing I noticed was the proliferation of horses, of different designs, materials and sizes. They make excellent conversation pieces – or at least the ones that are for sale do! Ines’s husband, Peter Bastijns, is a champion Belgian rider, and as well as Bello Horizonte, and the neighbouring Restaurante Masena, the De Roij Bastijns family also owns Vall de Cavall, a livery yard, stables and restaurant in nearby Gata de Gorgos.
The Building of Bello!
That’s a lot of work for one family, but this is a family that thrives on hard work, since they built all their businesses from nothing – literally! The Bello showroom looks like a 19th century finca that was built for a local aristocrat, but it’s actually less than 20 years old. They also built Masena and Vall de Cavall from nothing, and they are justifiably proud of the beauty they have created in the Javea district. Add to that a business philosophy of giving every customer the best possible experience, whatever they are looking for, and you realise this is a very special place indeed, and definitely no ordinary furniture shop.
Much of the furniture at Bello Horizonte is sourced from Indonesia, with an average two week turnaround. You will not see dozens of cloned chairs and tables here, just beautiful bespoke pieces. And if you don’t see exactly what you are looking for, speak to the team, who will do their best to source what you are looking for. Bello completely changes their entire stock in spring and autumn, and new things are coming in all the time. Christmas stock is expected in November, but there are always quirky little items available.
Just like home!
A great selling point at Bello Horizonte is that everything is laid out in room settings, so you can get a good idea of how a sofa, table or cabinet may look in your own home. I asked Ines how she worked out the room settings, and she was very frank:
I don’t sleep for a few nights, and then we all get together and decide what we want to do. Somehow it all works out really well when we do that.
Being at Bello reminds me of being in a family home, and indeed there is a lovely, warm atmosphere there, amid the grandeur of the magnificent pieces. Some people describe the furniture as colonial style, but the items are far too individual and interesting to be defined by style. There are modern touches, rustic items – in fact, everything you need to make a beautiful, happy home. Go along soon, and immerse yourself in the beauty that is Bello Horizonte.
